Burning Bush Variations is a set of seven variations on the spiritual "Go Down, Moses" for piano. The song and the story of the man listening to God speak through a bush aflame but not consumed came to the composer through oral tradition. This rendition elaborates the tune with dance rhythms, abstraction, and free improvisation. The variations may be played in any order. The piece premiered in a live performance on the eve of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, New York.
